11 June, 2005: In April-May 2005,
the Indian automobile industry has clocked a growth of 20%. Performance of Passenger Vehicles,
two and three Wheelers managed to maintain a double digit growth in April-May 2005 when compared to the corresponding period last fiscal. However, Commercial Vehicles saw negative growth, which is attributed to switching over from BS I to BSII and BS II to BS III. Moreover, the uncertainty about the availability of the requisite fuel, mainly BS II Diesel, in some States have added to the confusion.
The data regarding the vehicle market was released by the Society of Indian Auromobile Manufacturers on Friday.
In Passenger Vehicles, the Passenger Cars & Utility Vehicles grew 13.32 % & 15.80% respectively, while MPVs grew by 4%.
The Commercial Vehicle segment posted a negative growth of around 6.48%. While the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles Segment has shown a decline of 15.85% the Light Commercial Vehicles have registered a positive growth of 9%.
Two Wheeler Segment as a whole during the month grew by 22.31%. The Three wheeler segment has witnessed a growth of 13.72% with the passenger three wheelers registering a growth of 18.66%.
The Automobile Exports have grown by 26%.Commercial Vehicle exports increased by 70%. The Two Wheeler exports registered a growth of 40% in the period April-May 2005 compared to the period April-May 2004.
