HM Ambassador sales rise in May 2005

The Hindustan Ambassador lives on

2 June, 2005: June 2, 2005: Hindustan Motors on Thursday reported 12 per cent increase in the sales of its Ambassador in May.

The fact that the Hindustan Motors Ambassador is selling itself would surprise many. That way, this is a double shocker!

According to HM, 1010 units of 'Ambassador' were sold in May this year as against 901 units last May. According to agencies, during the period of April-May this year, the company sold 2012 units of 'Ambassador', an increase of 16% as compared to the corresponding period last year.

HM had introduced a CNG version of the car called Ambassador Grand which targeted the taxi and fleet owner segment and an LPG version earlier in the year. How much of the sales have come from that segment is unclear.

The Ambassador will always sell, probably. There are still some who buy it for the nostalgia, and some who buy it for practicality - it can be repaired anywhere in the country for a few rupees.
